Aaron, you don't get paid for your civic leadership and I expect a lot more from the paid 'volunteers'
at the city commission...if you
can be devoted to your civic duties with no pay, then the
'commish' should DO their duty - attend meetings, READ, deliberate, visit folks and earn their pay and benefits like any citizen-soldier..

Anon;

Thank you for the kind words. I submit, however, that there is a great deal of difference, in both responsibility and time commitment, between Neighborhood Council and City Commission.

I think that I can do an effective job in my neighborhood council while still devoting most of my time to my family and my job. Neighborhood Council takes up, at most, 5-10 hours a month.

I submit to you that to do an effective job as a City Commissioner, you would have to devote at least 3-4 hours per day.

I am not saying that we should hold the city commission to a lower standard. However, we have to recognize that WE THE PEOPLE have constructed a system that is designed to have weak elected city leadership.

By the way, how are the cattle holding up in this heat?
