Read Hartelius' Resignation Request to Harris Here

I have just received a copy of the letter. I find this to be a scathing attack, and one that should result in Harris' removal from the bench even if he were not facing election.

I know that there is personal bad blood between Hartelius and Harris. However, if that were to disqualify someone from criticizing Harris, at least 3/4 of the town should be disqualified.

But is it ethical to read private mail?

Anon; Where did you get the idea that this was private mail? If you call the sender, I am sure he will be glad to send you a copy.

I have a couple problems with Channing getting involved publicly in this matter. The first is that it feeds directly into the claim by Harris that this whole event is nothing more than an attempt at destroying him politically (whether that is a good thing or not). Most everyone knows that Channing defended Mike Smartt during Smartt's matter before the judicial commission. Channing was also a close friend of Mike's.
Second, I don't believe it is appropriate for an attorney to write directly to a judge to demand their resignation, nor make such a letter public.
Even though I agree with the spirit in which Channing addresses some very real problems in Justice Court, I wish he would have stayed out of the public fight on this. It's counter-productive.
